Miguel Morciglio-Figueroa, 42 of the 300 block of North Franklin Street, Lancaster City, raped a now 19-year-old woman starting when she was six until she was 15 years old, the DA's office detailed in the initial release and as Daily Voice previously reported.
During the trial, Morciglio-Figueroa was "determined to be a sexually violent predator by a licensed psychologist," DA Heather Adams explained in the release noting that "Judge Ashworth accepted that determination, which carries a lifetime sex offender registration requirement."
“You have victimized an entire family,” Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth said before ordering the sentence. “I have not heard any contrition or remorse. There is no mistake that you have committed rape of a child.”
Ashworth presided over the trial in October and sentenced him to 38-87 years in prison starting Friday, Feb. 2.
“He waited and chose the times when the victim was alone and vulnerable. It’s an appropriate sentence for what he did. He put the victim through nine years of abject hell," Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Baker said.
The defense counsel asked for a sentence of 10-20 years plus a lengthy term of probation, according to the DA's release.
During the trial the woman he raped as a child spoke:
"You ruined my entire childhood [...] But you won’t have the satisfaction of ruining my entire life. The victim here is the younger version of myself. Not him.”
The woman he abused is a productive and fully-functioning member of society who is happily enrolled in an area college, the ADA explained, “I’m amazed by her and how she isn’t allowing the defendant to define her life."
Morciglio-Figueroa never spoke at the trial or his sentencing, according to the releases by the DA's office.
The Lancaster City Bureau of Police Detective Jared Snader led the investigation and filed the charges in this case.
